I live in a long, narrow, 6k square foot house that I couldn’t come close to covering even with an extra ISP-provided router/WAP combo. The main router for the house is at the far end...more on that later.
I fumbled through the setup and found myself pretty frustrated by the bandwidth, latency, and reliability of the network...especially at the far end (3rd WAP). At this point I was doing all wireless backhaul (mesh is a misnomer) and at the third WAP, even though the software indicated there was adequate connectivity, bandwidth was under 1mbps and latency was bad too.
At my wits end, I decided to do copper (Ethernet backhaul). I’m not a networking guy by any means, but I manage Cisco networking projects in the public sector, so I have my arms wrapped around the basics.
To do this, I bought an unmanaged gigabit (that’s key...Fast Ethernet probably won’t work) switch. My topography looks like this: ISP-provided router connects to main Lyra AP by copper in the Lyra’s WAN/LAN port. Gigabit switch connects to main Lyra AP in its LAN port. Second AP is connected to the gigabit switch in its WAN/LAN port. 3rd AP is wirelessly connected (but that will change once I can get a low voltage wiring guy out here to run some cat6 for me). I have great coverage all over the house and even the third AP is getting 25+ mbps up and down with relatively low latency.
Long story short: if you’re having issues already, or a similar layout to me, I’d recommend doing Ethernet backhaul using a gigabit desktop switch and flat cat6 cable so you can hide it under rugs.

My phones and tablets are another story. It is not entirely seamless and my signal drops out sometimes as I walk from one end of the house to the other. This can be a nuisance since I use WiFi calling with no cell signal at my house.
Installation was easy and the app worked well enough for me.
